Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
toDate is hyperlocal neighborhood intelligence — what's being built, what's changing, what things cost, and the real safety picture on the block where you actually live. We built it to work for residents. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
The short version: We collect the minimum we need to show you your neighborhood. We do not sell your personal data, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. The civic information in the app comes from public records — it is not private data about you.
Information we collect
toDate does not require an account to use — there's no sign-up, login, or password. The app works anonymously; we collect only what's below.
- Location — with your permission, we use your device location while you're using the app to determine your neighborhood and show what's happening near you. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings; the app still works, you just tell us your area instead.
- Email address — if you join the waitlist, we store your email so we can notify you when toDate opens in your area. The waitlist is one email when we launch near you — no spam.
- Quote requests (only if you ask) — if you choose to request quotes from local pros, you give us details like your name, email, ZIP, and the project. See "How we share information" below for exactly what happens to that.
- Basic app and device information — standard technical data needed to run the app reliably (such as app version and crash diagnostics) and your in-app preferences. We use this to keep the app working, not to profile you.
Where the neighborhood information comes from
The construction, civic activity, cost references, and safety signals you see in toDate are computed from public records — including public civic filings from DataSF (the City and County of San Francisco's open-data portal) and public incident reports from the San Francisco Police Department. This is public record about places and projects, not private information about you. Cost figures are reference ranges derived from public filings — they are estimates for context, not quotes.
How we use information
- To show you relevant, local information for your neighborhood.
- To send the waitlist email, if you joined the waitlist.
- To respond to your questions and support requests.
- To keep the app secure, reliable, and improving.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't use your data for cross-app advertising.
- No surveillance, no gossip — toDate is the public, factual record of your area, not a feed about your neighbors.
How we share information
We share personal information only in these limited cases:
- To fulfill a request you make. If you ask to be matched with local pros for quotes, we share the details you submit with those pros so they can contact you with quotes. This happens only because you requested it — and it is not a sale of your data.
- Service providers who help us operate (for example, email delivery and hosting), under agreements that limit them to working on our behalf.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of people and the service.
Your choices and your rights
- Location: turn it on or off any time in your device settings.
- Waitlist / email: ask us to remove you any time.
- Access or deletion: you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.
Children
toDate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data security and retention
We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information and keep it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
